Thomas and the Mock Ups Blandford Georgian Fayre Battle of the Bands 2010
Thomas and the Mock Ups Blandford Georgian Fayre Battle of the Bands winners 2010!
Congratulations to Thomas and the Mock Ups who won the 2010 Batle of the bands at the Blandford Georgian Fayre this year. They played a blinding set after a shaky start, there were some tuning problems during "England's Glory" but just like when I saw them at The Corn Exchange Dorchester in March, when the sound broke down during "London Dry" they didn't let it affect them at all. The Mock up's are definitely one of Dorset's most exciting bands, their songs are melodic new wave/punk/rock and roll spiced with profound lyrics of working class lives in a middle class town, sung and played with energy and a confident swagger.
The way that Thomas performs on stage reminiscent of Paul Weller when he was in The Jam, he sings with the same kind of attitude, excitement and a frenzied enthusiasm. The band are tight, energetic they have a fantastic stage presence that is refreshing and leagues above most other local bands I have seen. The Mock Up's of course are not the finished article, and I'm sure they themselves know where they can improve, but on the other hand they do need to be careful though not to become too polished. Overall though the raw ingredients for long term success are there for everyone to see.
